In 2019, SEBI constituted a committee chaired by Mr. J. Ranganayakulu to review and strengthen the regulatory framework for SEBI registered Portfolio Managers. The Committee's recommendations led to the revised SEBI (Portfolio Managers) Regulations, notified in February 2020.
To support the implementation of these regulations and facilitate structured engagement between SEBI and Portfolio Managers akin to AMFI's role for mutual funds, SEBI encouraged the formation of a dedicated industry body.
Accordingly, the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI) was incorporated on 31st December 2021 and became operational on 1st May 2022.
As the official industry association for SEBI registered Portfolio Managers, APMI is mandated to:
- Drive the growth and development of the PMS industry in India.
- Act as a formal communication bridge between the industry and SEBI.
- Foster collaboration among Portfolio Managers, service providers, and stakeholders.
- Promote industry wide standardization of processes and systems.

We are delighted to announce that the 2nd Annual Event of the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI) will be held on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, commencing at 10:00 AM.
This landmark gathering will bring together a distinguished group of attendees, including senior officials from SEBI, representatives from leading Portfolio Management firms, APMI registered Distributors, key service providers across the PMS ecosystem, and notable personalities of the media. The event will celebrate the remarkable growth of the PMS industry, highlight APMI's pivotal role in shaping its evolution, and chart the path forward for the sector.
